Negligent and forgotten Nurpur Children Park is a victim of neglect of citizen

The main children’s park of Nurpur, called ‘Angel and Vihaan Children Park’ and which is located in ward number 2, has become a symbol of civil neglect and poor maintenance by the Municipal Council (MC). This park, which is full of children and the elderly in the morning and evening, is now suffering from the growing grass, broken bank and increasing presence of stray animals. Residents of Wyk No. 2 says that this park, known as ‘Drought Talab Ground’, is no longer safe or attractive. Local resident Praveen said: “The children playing here have closed the broken entrance to the damaged swing and iron bank to prevent stray animals from entering.” Others, including Sushma, Ajay, Poonam, Manisha and Udit, expressed concern that the weakened situation forced people to stay away from the park completely. The broken small entrance to the park is closed with a broken iron bank and swings so that stray animals can be stopped in the park. The park was developed in 2016-17 after the efforts of the then local Mla Ajay Mahajan. The MC has invested millions of rupees to make a public space with more use with two entrances, pedestrian routes, swings, open air gym equipment, colorful garbage bin and well -made green grass. One of the unique aspects of this was its double purpose – except that it was an entertainment place, it also served as a place for community programs such as marriages, Bhandare and the annual Ramlila, for which a cemented stage was built. Today, the same park offers a disappointing picture. The small entrance was broken for more than a month, but the residents found no result by repeated MC officials and even MC vise president -who were elected from the same division in December 2020. Iron banks are buried under dense grass, while stray animals walk openly on the field. This situation has created resentment among the local population, which believes that the park is not only for children, but also for the elderly and community ceremonies. They demand immediate recovery and regular maintenance from this place. With contact, Asha Verma, executive of MC Nurpur, confirmed that he had ordered the junior engineer to make the necessary repairs. However, the residents are in doubt and say that words must now be converted into direct action. While other parks in Nurpur have also seen a similar neglect despite great public investment, the situation of Angel and Vihaan Children Park gives a clear reminder of the ongoing civil responsibility and the need for community participation.
