‘Game of Thrones’ Dire Wolves Are No Longer Extinct, Thanks to Science – ryan

Somebody call Jon Snowbecause ghost has returned to the land of the living. And no, he’s not a wight: he’s a real, live dirwolf. That’s right: the popular Game of Thrones Animal, the Dire Wolf, has been brought back from extinction some 10,000 years after the last one roamed the Americas, according to the Colossal Laboratories and Biosciences Company.

In what is undoubtedly a landmark scientific moment, the OFT-Considered Mythical (But Very Real) Creature has been returned to the Land of the Living Thanks to DNA Extracted from Two Dire Wolf Fossils, as well as 20 edits of the genetic code of a gray wolf (the Closest Living Relative to The Dire Wolf That Currently Exists on Earth). And then the company took two of those pups – Remus and Romulus, named for the Mythical Twin Founders of Rome, who were allegedly raised by a wolf – down to dallas, texas, to take some promotional photos atop the iron throne that that Peter Jackson (Yes, the Lord of the Rings director) owned.

If Martin himself – A Financial Backer of the Project Alongside Jackson – said in a quote:

“Many people View dire Wolves as mythical creatures that only exist in a fantasy world, but in reality, they have a rich history of contributing to the American ecosystem.”

And it is that contribution that inspires Colossal to bring the dire wolf (one of three animals they are currently trying to “de-EXTINCT”) BACK TO LIFE FIRST. They even made a video about the process and why they decided to do it:

According to Colossal, the company is planning to bring back the Woolly Mammoth, the Tasmanian Tiger, as well as the Dodo Bird in its conservation and de-EXTINCTION Efforts. So far, the company has also cloned two litters of Red Wolves-one of the most critically endangered wolf species in the world-syncing in 2021. Works, “Explained Colossal Co-Founder and Entrepreneur Ben Lamm. (Lamm co-founded the company with Harvard geneticist Dr. George Church.)

Admittedly, Lamm’s Whole Deal Sounds Like The Making of a Supervillain (He is A Billionaire Several Times Over, After All), But It do Seema like he may be using at least some of that money for good. Another One or Lamm’s Companies Discovered X-32the plastic-Eating microbe that is capable of breaking down various plastics in as little as 22 months, leaving only carbon dioxide, water, and biomass in its place. This is, in our plastic-choked world, a major discovery and potential game-changer for the plague of microplastics currently killing our Planet (and humanity).
