LAFC, La Galaxy Renew el Trafico rivalry moving in different directions
Since this season’s first issue of the El Trafico racing arrival on Sunday, the Los Angeles Galaxy has not yet entered the highway much less, but uses the passing track while preparing to host Los Angeles FC. After winning a championship last season, the Galaxy won another match in 2025, with their record of 0-10-3 representing the longest, at the beginning of a schedule without a win in MLS history. And yet, even with all their struggles, the club on Friday chose to extend the contract of head coach Greg vanney during the 2028 season. “After winning a championship and transferring things after the championship, you will lose some key players,” Vanney said, according to the Los Angeles Times. “The most important thing in any challenging moments is that you have a plan and a method and a way to get out of it.” The Galaxy looked ready on the road against the Philadelphia Union on Wednesday for a breakthrough, with a 2-0 lead at halftime. But in the first five minutes of the second half, they gave up two goals before leaving the match winner in the sixth minute of the downtime. Meanwhile, Los Angeles FC (6-4-3, 21 points) is sending midfielder Mark Delgado on Saturday against his former team while trying to expand an unbeaten six-match line (3-0-3). Delgado took over during the Galaxy’s MLS Cup final in midfield for an injured Requi Puig and provided the help with the win-win goal. That team-way play continued, with Delgado’s three assists this season for the LAFC lead. Delgado, Sergi Palencia and Nathan Ordaz are the only LAFC players who have seen time in all 13 league matches this season. LAFC enters Saturday’s rivalry collision with its highest score in a 4-0 win at home against the Seattle Sounders. Denis Bouanga recorded to raise his team to six goals. “I would say for the past five weeks, we were on a very good path, very consistent,” LAFC head coach Steve Cherundolo said. “Guys do the little things right again, and I think you see it in the performances, first and most importantly, and then the results.” With three goals over his next eight games, Bouanga becomes the 15th player with 50 goals in 90 mls matches or less. The Galaxy holds a slim benefit of 10-9-5 on LAFC over all competitions. LAFC won two of the three games last season. -Media on the field level
