Federico Bernardeschi Vaults Toronto FC Paste CF Montreal
Federico Bernardeschi and Theo Corbeanu each scored a prop on Saturday afternoon, leading the visiting Toronto FC to a dominant 6-1 victory over CF Montreal. Tyrese Spicer and Ola Brynhildsen also recorded for the Reds, which won for the second time in five games (2-3-0). Toronto (3-7-4, 13 points) improved to 17-14-5 in 36 meetings of all time against Montreal. Toronto is also 9-5-1in 15 visits to Montreal. Giacomo Vrioni responded to Montreal (1-9-4, 7 points), who had his piece of two straight matches with a point. Montreal remains looking for its first home win of the season (0-3-2). Bernardeschi led 3-0 and curled his shot from the top of the area in the 55th minute for his second of the match and his eighth career goal against Montreal. Vrioni got Montreal on the board in the 64th minute and tapped it in a Luca Petrasso cross for his second of the season. Two minutes later, Toronto recovered his four goals lead when Corbeanu placed his left foot strike from the penalty kick past Breza. Corbeanu added his second of the match and tilted a Bernardeschi through the ball on and over Breza in the 91st minute. Toronto opened the standings in the 14th minute when Spicer passed Montreal defender Jalen Neal and when Caden Clark was outside the out of Caden before beating Breza with a strike of the left foot. Montreal defender Joel Waterman was sent off with a straight red in the 21st minute for his hard mistake on Brynhildsen. Bernardeschi placed the subsequent free kick just to the left of the goal. The Italian doubled the lead of the Reds in the 30th minute, took a ball from Deybi Flores and placed a right foot strike far past Breza. Brynhildsen gave the visitors a 3-0 lead, with a cross from Maxime Dominguez for his first MLS goal in the 33rd minute.
