The Directorate of School Education sent a comprehensive proposal to the government to utilize and merge the low enrollment schools. The department has proposed to name more than 100 schools of primary and higher primary division, while the number of schools recommended for merger of schools in the area is more than 400. Education Minister Rohit Thakur will make the final decision on this. In a department’s assessment meeting a few weeks ago, the minister asked the deputy directors to identify schools with a low entry in their respective districts and to provide detailed information by May 25. The department sent a proposal to name and merge such schools based on the report submitted by the deputy directors. In the proposal, the Directorate Recommended Immediate De Notice for 72 primary schools and 28 high schools with zero notice by April 21, 2025. The number of schools recommended for merger is over 400. The department also recommended the merger of 142 primary schools enrolled by only one or two students. In addition, the government recommended the merger of 1-10 enrolled high schools. These schools can be put together in the nearest secondary, high or senior high school with more than 10 entries. In addition, 24 secondary schools can be merged with only one or two students in the nearest school. The department also sent a proposal to downgrade some schools with insufficient entry. It is noteworthy that the government has already indicated and merged more than 1200 schools with zero or insufficient entry. In addition to the consolidation by Denotiffi and the merger of schools, the government is trying to rationalize resources by deploying free teachers from institutions where there is a shortage of teachers.
