Researchers have revealed a great relationship between the type of diet and the risk of lung cancer.

Researchers from the universities of Florida and Kentucky in the United States reported that the glycogen molecule that stores simple glucose sugar, may be a catalyst for some types of lung cancer.

Tests were conducted on a group of mice, where scientists found that increased glycogen helps lung cancers to grow faster, while the loss of this molecule leads to restricting the growth of the tumor.

“This study gave a new perspective to photograph diseases, which enabled researchers to distinguish patterns and molecular interactions that were not previously discovered with amazing and depth details,” says the molecular biology scientist Ramon Sun, of the University of Florida.

Glycogen comes from the carbohydrates that we eat, which is an important fuel reserve in our muscles that the body takes advantage of when exercising. It stores unnecessary glucose immediately. It is also something that accumulates as a result of a diet rich in fat and carbohydrates.
