Tigers top twins for 2nd exclusion in 3 matches
Dillon Dingler rode in three runs, Charlie Morton pitched six strong turns and the visiting Detroit Tigers emptied the Minnesota twins, 7-0, on Friday. Javier Baez had two strokes and rode in two runs, while Spencer Torkelson reached the base three times and scored two runs. The Tigers won five of their last six games. Morton (8-10) gave up two strokes and walked three as he knocked out five in his third start since Detroit bought him on Baltimore deadline. Tommy Kahnle, Brant Hurter and Bailey Horn each took a turn of relief to complete the Tigers’ second exclusion in the last three games. Minnesota starting batsman Pierson Ohl gave up seven runs, three earnings and eight strokes in 2 1/3 overs. The twins dropped four of their last five games. An error and a long-lasting bat fueled the Tigers’ five-run first. Colt Keith and Gleyber Torres had back-to-back singles to put runners on the corners. Kerry Carpenter then hit a bouncer to second Baseman Luke Keaschall, who pitched the ball when Keith scored. After a fly, Torkelson pulled a 12-step step. Ohl (0-3) recorded a strike before Dingler bounced a single to the center and brought home two runs. Zach McKinster followed with an RBI singles and Baez ripped a double of the third baseline and beat in Dingler. McKINSGRY was thrown out on the plate on the same play. Detroit led it 7-0 in third place. Torkelson led with a single one and Wenuceel Perez turned. Dingler then struck a double of the left wall and brought home Torkelson. Perez recorded on Baez’s sacrifice fly. Morton walked in the first two overs and, secondly, gave up a lead double. He allowed another walk and hit fourth, but every time he stranded the runners. Keaschall had a one-time singles in sixth place, but was erased on a Matt Wallner double-apple ball, which liquidated the last pitch of Morton’s night. -Media on the field level
