Pakistan: The co -Eppp Outline of the Government over the Indus channel project, preparations to make proposal with PTI
Islamabad, April 11 (IANS). The split between two major parties, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) in Pakistan’s ruling coalition government. The PPP has decided to raise support from various political parties to bring a proposal to the National Assembly against the construction of channels on the Indus River. The PPP planned to bring a proposal against the channels in collaboration with Imran Khan’s Party Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insev (PTI). A few days ago, PPP MPs protested when their proposal on the construction of channels in the National Assembly was excluded from the Daynda of the day. PPP’s member of the National Assembly and Party spokesperson Shazia Marri targeted the PML-N and said that the way the government handles the issue could spread it in Pakistan. He said: “The way you handle it (channel construction problem), the statements are made, we feel that there is an attempt to set fire to Pakistan. Peace in Pakistan is in danger.” Recently, the government of Pakistan has started a Green Pakistan initiative of $ 3.3 billion. It aims to build six channels for irrigation of 1.2 million hectares of land in South Punjab. However, the Sindh Province is against this project because it fears it will eliminate its part of the water from the Indus River. PPP leader and Sindh head minister Murad Ali Shah said that if the channel project begins without Sindh’s consent, the PPP can withdraw its support. Several divisions of society, political parties, civil organizations and trade unions protested against this project and demanded the government to cancel it. -Ians DSC/MK shares this story tags
