Roland Emmerich’s movies don’t revolve around a plot that justifies an explosion, they revolve around an explosion that tries to justify the plot.
Geostorm sadly failed to make much of an impression, despite portraying a disaster of epic proportions that has seen previous films in the genre Reach box office Heights. In the Movie, Butler Plays Jake Lawson, A Satellite Designer in Charge of Finding a Solution for Several Satellites That Can Control The Planet’s Climate But Have Been Malfunction and Destroying Cities All Over The Globe. Per the Film’s Official Plot Synopsis:
When the network of satellites designed to control the global climate starts to attack earth, it’s a race against the lock for its creator to uncover the real threat before a worldwide geostorm wipes out everything and everyone.
If you are confused about which movie Geostorm is, we can’t blame you. Yes, gerard butler also made a disaster movie called Greenlandbut that one was more recent (Greenland was released in 2020), and was much better received, with a sequel now on the way. If you are also confusing Geostorm with Moonfallthe Roland Emmerich Movie in which the moon literally leaves its orbit and heads towards the earth, we still can blame you. Though that too was also better recieved than butler’s foray into space.
‘Geostorm’ is a gloriously disastrous disaster movie
Geostorm was original scheduled for release in march 2016. However, Warner Bros. Made a few changes to their schedule, and after test screenings garnered terrible results, the film required several reshoots. Geostorm Was finally released in October 2017, but it failed to make enough to be a profitable project for Warner Bros., Making $ 221 million against a $ 130 million production budget.
Unfortunately, despite the reshoot efforts, the reception by Critics was not great. Many complained that the character were not well-written, and declared that the story was flat and dead on arrival. Most agreed that it was simply a boring approach to the disaster genre. Today, Geostorm Holds a rotten score of 18% on rotten tomatoes’ tomatometer, with the audience score on the popcornmeter registering a better (but still lackluster) score of 35%. With geostorm set to land on Netflix, and with gerard butler more popular than ever, perhaps now is the time to ask ourselves: is Geostorm Really that bath? Or is it actually worth revisiting?
