Indonesian President and Chinese Prime Minister meet to discuss the expansion of the trade during the US Trade War
Jakarta, Indonesia – Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang met with Indonesia’s President Prabowo Subianto on Sunday to discuss ways to expand trade and investment during the US global trade war and face economic globalization against the wind. Li arrived in the capital of Indonesia, Jakarta, on Saturday afternoon for a three-day visit to the largest economy in Southeast Asia. It was the first stop of his first overseas visit this year. Indonesia and China are member states of the group of 20 major developing countries and emerging economies and Brics. Li brought 60 prominent Chinese business people for his address to the Indonesia-China reception on Saturday night. He emphasized in his remarks that China’s economy has achieved rapid growth this year, despite increasing external challenges. “The current international situation is a downtime,” Li said during the event, which was also attended by Subianto. “Oneilateralism and protectionism are increasing, bullying behavior is increasing.” Li noted this year the 70th anniversary of the notion of the non-aligned movement by Asian and African countries in the Bandung City in Indonesia when the world was on a historic crossroads. The Bandung spirit of Solidarity, friendship and cooperation played an important role in the unity and cooperation of the global South countries, Li said. “More than seven decades later, the world is back on an important crossroads,” Li said. He called on all countries to seek common land, while solving differences through dialogue and peaceful coexistence. Subianto expressed gratitude to the Chinese government and its businesses “that participated in our economy, created jobs, transferred technology and built up confidence among all businesses, especially in our homeland.” He also invited Chinese business people to invest more in Indonesia. Two -way trade exceeded $ 147.8 billion last year and grew by 6.1%. Li has been saying that China was the largest trading partner of Indonesia for nine consecutive years, and its belt and road collaboration program showed significant progress, including nickel-melting plants and Whoosh, the commercial service of Southeast Asia’s first speed track that has been working since October 2023, with nearly 10 million passengers. Indonesia wants a greater role in providing nickel and other raw materials to China’s rapidly growing electric car manufacturers. Subiantto hosted Li in a ceremony in Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Sunday before the two leaders held a bilateral meeting behind closed doors. “The current international situation is facing a major revolution, and peaceful development is very uncertain and unstable factors,” Li said in his opening remarks. China wants to strengthen its traditional partnership and belt and road initiative partnership with Indonesia, especially in five important pillars: politics, economics, maritime affairs, safety and cultural and people-to-people exchanges. Li said. Emphasize the close historical relationship between Indonesia and China, saying that the two countries are at an important moment in the history of bilateral relationships. “I repeat our commitment to strengthening our comprehensive strategic partnership with the people and the government of China,” Subianto said. Investment coordination council, said that Li’s visit brought prospects for concrete cooperation, including the $ 10 billion implementation in investment previously agreed by the two countries.
