Labor Party rejects reports on the Supreme Court ruling confirms the leadership of Abure
The Supreme Court ruled that the trial court exceeded its jurisdiction by making statements about the leadership of the party. The Labor Party has denied that reports on a decision of the Supreme Court have spread that declared the recognition of Julius Abure as his national chairman. According to the party, the news story is false. In a statement released on Friday, Dr. Arabambi Abayomi, the National Publicity Secretary of the Labor Party, addressed the issue, confirming that the Supreme Court decision had no influence on the party’s leadership. “What happened in court today was clear,” Abayomi explained. “The Supreme Court has knocked out the costs submitted by Nenadi and Abure and emphasized that only political parties have the authority to determine their leadership. The court further said that the judiciary should not interfere in the domestic affairs of political parties.” According to the Labor Party, the ruling has also been expanded to earlier decisions taken by the trial court and the Court of Appeal. The Supreme Court ruled that the trial court exceeded its jurisdiction by making statements about the leadership of the party. “The message of the court was unambiguous – political parties must follow their constitutions, and the Labor Party fulfilled the Constitution in organizing the convention that led to the election of the Bar Julius Abure as National Chairman and Alhaji Farouk Umar Ibrahim as National Secretary,” Abayomi cleared. As a result, the leadership of the Labor Party confirmed that Julius Abure remains the properly recognized national chairman, with Alhaji Farouk Umar Ibrahim as the national secretary. The party leadership emphasized that these positions are legally binding, as confirmed by the court ruling. “The only legal national leadership of the Labor Party remains as follows: Bar Julius Abure as national chairman and Alhaji Farouk Umar Ibrahim as national secretary,” he added. The Labor Party has called on its supporters and the public to disregard the wrong information and to stay focused on the party’s mission and leadership.
