1 Gas cylinder explosion victim in West Jakarta dies from 55% burns

Jakarta – The victim of the 12 kg gas cylinder explosion at Taman Palem Lestari Complex, Cengkareng, West Jakarta, initials ES (73) died after being treated in hospital. The ES victim suffered burns that reached 55 percent of his body as a result of the incident. “Yes, it’s true, the ES victim died after being treated at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital. The burns he suffered reached about 55 percent,” Cengkareng Police Chief Commissioner Fernando Saharta Saragi told reporters on Wednesday (22/10/2025). Police Commissioner Nando explained that ES died on Monday (20/10). The ES victim is the owner of the house where the gas exploded on Wednesday (15/10). Nando and the Cengkareng police officers visited the victim’s funeral home as a form of empathy and concern. “We express our deepest condolences to the victim’s family. This explosion caused two injuries and six houses were destroyed. This gas explosion incident occurred on Wednesday (15/10) at 06:00 WIB. Cengkareng Police Chief Commissioner Fernando Saharta Saragi explained that the explosion occurred when the victim with the initials ES (73) as the owner of the house was about to turn on the stove. “So the victim wanted to turn on the stove to cook. At that point there was an explosion,” Fernando told reporters on Wednesday (15/10). This explosion occurred because it was suspected that there was a leak in the regulator. He said the results of the crime scene showed that the regulator and gas pipe had only been tied by the victim. “The initial crime scene results indicate that there was a leak from the gas installation as the regulator and pipe were found to be loose and only tied by the victim,” he said. At least six houses sustained serious damage due to gas cylinder explosions.
