Western Bengal: Demonstration against Sukant Majumdar's arrest, three councilors, including Sajal Ghosh in custody
Kolkata, June 29 (IANS). Police on Saturday detained the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sajal Ghosh and two other BJP councilors in the Western Bengal capital Kolkata. The action was taken during a protest march against the arrest of the BJP State President Sukant Majumdar. Police detained him because of the implementation of Article 144 in the area during the protest. The incident further increased the tension between the ruling Trinamole congress and the BJP in the state. Sajal Ghosh attacked the Trinamole Congress in a conversation with the media after being arrested. He recently targeted the statements of Trinamole leaders in the alleged rape of a student of South Calcutta Law College. Ghosh said: “Such matters have now become a daily story for Trinamol. His government has completely failed to maintain law and order.” The protesters opposed the arrest of the BJP worker Sukant Majumdar. During the protest, the activists shouted slogans against the state’s Mamta Banerjee government and created a Rukus on the streets of Kolkata. However, police named the demonstration as illegal with reference to Article 144 and acted immediately and arrested Sajal Ghosh and two other councilors. On Saturday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) activists led by Union Minister and President of the West BJP, Sukant Majumdar, strongly argued against the horrific incident of the alleged gang rape of a student at the South Calcutta Law College. During the protest march, police arrested Sukant Majumdar. After being arrested, Sukant Majumdar said: “This is the face of democracy in Western Bengal. Mamta Banerjee has destroyed democracy in the state. The police arrested me and other BJP workers just because we left voting against a horrific crime.” -Ians Aks/Aques Share This Story -Tags
