Tamil Nadu: Ooty Professor spread awareness about Ayushman Bharat Card

Ooty (Tamil Nadu), April 27 (IANS). Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-Jay) has become the basis of the Modi government’s commitment to the acquisition of universal health coverage (UHC). The scheme has inspired many ‘volunteers’ to spread awareness among the general public about this Gamechanger scheme, especially among those who remain outside its scope. In Ooty, Tamil Nadu, Professor Dr. Uma Mallen took the initiative to educate and encourage the residents to enter the Ayushman Bharat card so that they could become registered beneficiaries of the scheme. They also receive praise and appreciation from people to educate on medical insurance cards in the Nilgiri district. Under the scheme, each suitable family receives a cover of five lakh calls annually. Nilgiri is a mountainous region where there are many towns where there is a lack of basic facilities. Dr. Uma Mallen, the founding president of the Rise Foundation, took the initiative to promote the government’s welfare schemes among the people. Its foundation provides people with information about the schemes of the central government, distributes medical insurance cards and also raises awareness about the loan and educational loan of the currencies for school students. She also visits tribal villages in the Nilgiri district to raise awareness about the central government’s schemes. Professor Mallen promotes environmental protection by spreading trees to the residents and encouraging them to have a tree mother’s name. She also distributes an awareness over the 100 -day employment scheme of the central government, which aims to provide jobs to rural people and improve water resources. It is noteworthy that the Ayushman Bharat scheme was launched by the Modi government on September 23, 2018. With the ambitious goal of covering more than 12 crore families or about 55 crore persons, PM-Jay has become the world’s largest health insurance scheme, which offers a coverage of up to five lakh calls per family.
