Dr. Moaz Mandara, a consultant of kidney and pancreas surgery, confirmed that the Kingdom is witnessing remarkable growth in the field of organ transplantation, as the number of specialized programs in this field reached about 31 programs distributed among a number of medical centers.

Mandaha explained through his intervention with the “Al -Ikhbaria” channel, that the number of organ transplants that were carried out reached more than 2,300 successful operations, noting that 85% of the donors were from the neighborhoods, while 15% of the donors took place after the brain death.

And that the kidneys topped the cultivated organs, where approximately 1500 kidney transplants were conducted, followed by liver, heart, lungs, pancreas, heart valves, and cornea, with more than 500 operations.

On the details of liver transplantation, Mandaha said, “About 400 operations were carried out by the donation of the neighborhoods, while approximately 100 operations were performed using a liver of dead cerebralized donors.”

In response to a question about the most difficult organs of cultivation, he said: “The pancreas is one of the most complex organs in agriculture, due to its high sensitivity and the nature of the immune compatibility required for the success of the process.”
