Washington, April 9 (IANS). Tehwwur Rana, the 26/11 attack -assembly of Pakistan origin, is no longer in possession of the US prison agency. According to the US Prison Bureau (BOP), Rana was abandoned from BoP — from April 8. Earlier, the US Supreme Court rejected the appeal not to extradite Tehwavur Rana to India. As for Rana, the US prison bureau on his website has given information that he has no longer been oversee since April 8. However, it was not confirmed whether it left for India or not. Earlier this week, US High Court approved Rana’s extradition. The court rejected his appeal, after which Rana’s extradition process began. The US Department of Justice is now helping to complete the process with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Rana claimed to prevent his extradition that he could be tortured in India. He quoted a British case in which a person was prevented from sending to India because he was in the danger of torture. Rana’s attorney, Tilman J. Finley, said that if the person could not be sent to India, Rana would also run the risk of torture and not be exposed. However, Rana’s appeal was rejected by American Judge Elena Kagan in March, and the case was later sent to the Supreme Court’s chief justice John Roberts. The court delivered its ruling on Monday and rejected Rana’s appeal. Rana is being sought in the 2008 attack case in Mumbai in India. He was a collaborator of David Coleman Headley, who was convicted of investigating the goals of the Mumbai attack in the US. Although Rana was not convicted of direct cooperation for these attacks, he was convicted and sentenced to more than ten years on other charges. Rana’s health deteriorated from Kovid-19 epidemic, after which he was released from prison. But he was later arrested to extradite India. David Headley is relieved of extradition under an agreement with the US authorities, while Rana’s extradition process received no impediment and now all his legal options are over. Rana’s extradition was announced by US President Donald Trump during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the White House in February. After this, Rana tried to stop the extradition in the Supreme Court, but now all his legal appeals have been rejected. -Ians PSM/CBT Share this story Tags
