Jakarta – PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) recorded 36 cases of harassment that occurred on trains from January-October 2025. The majority of cases occurred on commuter lines or KRL. “Of the total reports, 33 incidents occurred on Commuter Line train services, while three incidents occurred on KAJJ (Long Distance Train),” said Public Relations Manager of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Operational Area (Daop) 1 Jakarta, Ixfan Hendriwintoko, as reported by Antara, Monday (20/250). Ixfan said the report figures are a reminder that education and collective awareness are still needed to create a safe and ethical public transport environment. Scroll TO CONTINUE CONTENT As an effort to raise public awareness, especially train passengers, PT KAI Jakarta is working with the train enthusiast community to conduct anti-sexual harassment outreach. This activity was carried out in various places, including the Jatinegara station area, as on Saturday (18/10). KAI works with the train enthusiast community Train Photograph and Trace Railfans. In this outreach activity, train passengers were taught about forms of sexual harassment, preventive measures and a quick reporting mechanism if an incident occurs in the station area or on the train. “Customers who experience or witness acts of harassment can report it immediately to officers at the station, on the train, via the KAI 121 contact center or through other passengers to ask for help,” he said. Ixfan hopes that with this outreach activity, passengers will be braver to fight back and report if they become victims or witness acts of harassment. KAI will not tolerate harassment in any form. In accordance with Law Number 12 of 2022 on criminal acts of sexual violence, passengers found to commit acts of sexual harassment on trains or stations will be blacklisted. The offender’s population identification number (NIK) will be blocked so that they can no longer board the train. He stressed that public transport should be a safe space for all groups. There can be no fear and no neglect. “We all have a shared responsibility to prevent and act on all forms of harassment,” said Ixfan. (yangs/yangs)
