The administration took this step to restore trust. Six leaders, including a Congress councillor, who were detained during violent protests in Leh on September 24, were released on bail after three weeks on Wednesday. To restore confidence in Leh, along with the lifting of effective restrictions under section 163 of the Indian Civil Defense Code, six leaders were also released. Remove Ads Read Only News These leaders released on Wednesday include Congress councilor Stanzin Phuntyog Sepak, Ladakh Buddhist Association women’s wing president Kunjas Dolma, Anjuman Moin-ul-Islam’s Irfan Bari and Leh Apex Badi’s Padma Stanzin, Jigmit Paljor and Stanzin Chospal. These are all those youth leaders who surrendered in the local court amid police action after being accused of involvement in violence. Police detained more than 70 people in Leh following the violent protests on September 24. Of these, thirty were released earlier and six have now been released on bail. About three dozen more youths are being held in custody in Leh. Leh Apex Body and Kargil Democratic Alliance have set conditions to start talks with the central government on the issues of Ladakh. These include the release of all detained people, judicial investigation into the death of 4 people in the actions of security forces during violent protests, together with compensation to the families of those killed and seriously injured in the actions of security forces. By securing the release of six people, the administration has given a clear message that the central government is serious about restoring the confidence of the people in Leh. In such a situation, serious action is taken to restart the dialogue process.
