Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu on Monday declared Himachal Pradesh as a full literate state under the centrally sponsored literacy program. Under this program, any state that receives more than 95 percent literacy rate is considered a complete literate condition. Under this program, the learner must reach financial and digital literacy, along with the ability to read and write. The chief minister said during the International Literacy Day celebrations in Shimla: “We have become a full literate state. This is a matter of great pride for us.” Education Minister Rohit Thakur said Himachal achieved the literacy rate of more than 99 percent, which is the highest in the country. He said that since 1947, when the literacy rate was only 7 percent, it was a long journey for the state. Share this story -tags
