State Bureau, Chandigarh. The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Monday granted the title of Senior Advocate to 76 lawyers. A clear condition was set in the notice that all these lawyers would handle 10 free legal aid cases every year. Navdeep Singh (Major): Leading expert in military law. He is a writer, lawyer and former Territorial Army officer. Sartej Singh Narula: President of Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association. Vikas Chatrath: Expert in employment law. He runs the YouTube channel “Beyond Law CLC”, where legal experts, including former judges, talk about various topics. Lokesh Singhal: Senior Additional Advocate General, Government of Haryana. They represent the state in the Supreme Court. Ankur Mittal and Pawan Girdhar: Additional Advocate General in Chandigarh. Dheeraj Jain: Senior Panel Counsel for the Union Government. He is the son of Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Satya Pal Jain. Arvind Moudgil: Senior Panel Counsel for the Union Government. Represented as Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) of the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Divya Sharma: In the senior panel of Central Government from 2023. Yogesh Putney: Senior standing counsel of the Income Tax Department for years. Selection process: 210 lawyers applied for senior positions in the Supreme Court in 2024. This process has been delayed due to the pending case on senior designation process in the Supreme Court. After holding discussions with eligible candidates, the committee approved 64 lawyers last month. However, the full court voted to approve 12 more applicants. Now the number of senior advocates in the Supreme Court has increased to more than 300. The previous appointments were made in 2021.
