Flood threat for 56 towns in Dharwad, Karnataka, administration withdraws
Dharwad, May 28 (IANS). Beni Lake Bridge appears as the biggest problem in the rainy season in the Dharwad district Karnataka. The situation is so severe that 56 towns are threatened by floods during heavy rains. The government has already approved Rs 200 Crore to relieve 56 towns under Nawalgund Taluka, Hubli and Dharwad Taluka in the Dharwad district. The purpose of this award was to increase the depth of the drains so that the flood situation could be stopped. However, there was no significant improvement in the situation due to rain and water from the border districts of oats, Gadag and Belagavi. At present, 145 km of work from this 180 km long drain has been identified. It will be started as soon as it rains less. This will improve the drainage situation in 56 towns.
