South Korea: PPP's floor leader announced resignation after the defeat in the presidential election
Sol, June 5 (IANS). The leader of the House of South Korean People’s Power Party (PPP) announced on Thursday to retire. The reason for this is presumably the defeat of the recently secluded presidential election by the party. The representative Quoon Sangeg-Dong said at a meeting of party parliamentary members at the National Assembly that he thanked Tuesday’s election responsibility for the defeat of PPP President Kim Moon-Su. He said: “We must work from the beginning to rebuild the Orthodox group. For this I will resign from the post of leader.” He emphasized that the election defeat in the election did not “merely the martial law applicable or the president’s prosecution on prosecution”, but a “tough rebuke” about the internal division within the PPP. He said, “As a floor leader, I am also very guilty. I do not intend to avoid it or make excuses.” The PPP’s emergency committee meets in a closed room on Thursday. In this, the deadline for the election of the new leader of the house will be determined. The potential candidates for the post include Kim Do-You, a four-time MP, Kim Song-Hoon, Park Day-Chul and Lee Hun-Sung, as well as the three times LP Kim Sung Won, Sung Il-young and Song Eon-SOO. Following the announcement of the resignation of Quoon Siang-Dong, members of the PPP’s Emergency Leadership Committee also offered to jointly resign. PPP spokeswoman Sio G-Yang announced that members such as representative Limi-YJ and PPP’s top policy chief Kim Song-Hun resigned in a General Assembly of MPs in the National Assembly. According to the Yonhap News Agency, PPP plans to hold a common meeting next Monday to discuss Kim Yong-Tay’s status and party reforms. President Li J-Melg took over on Wednesday. He won the election by 49.42 percent votes on Tuesday, while Kim received 41.15 percent votes. -Ians bag/Ekd shares this story tags
