Nanu started selling fans and sewing machines for Usha International Limited. From there, he learned the skills to understand and deal with customers. Then in 1967, in the name of his brother, he opened a 50-60 square footsteps in Matunga, Mumbai, named Vijay Sales. Initially, he sold sewing machines and fans earlier. In 1974 he started selling black and white TV. When the colorful TV came, Nanu played a big bet and bought a big place in Mahim, so he could show the TV in an attractive way. His son Nilesh Gupta says that this decision was considered risky at the time, but Nanu’s visionary thinking came in handy. His strategy was to keep all the TVs in the store so the customers should be dressed. Nanu’s special thing was to win the confidence of customers. His honesty and service won the hearts of the people. By 2006-07, Vijay sales had 8-10 stores in Mumbai. At the same time, he bought a large four -story store in Goregaon, in which each floor was 1300 square feet. In 2007-08, the company opened stores in Pune, Ahmedabad, Surat and Delhi and earned Rs 500 crore. In 2007, Vijay sales started selling digital products such as cell phones and computers. The company today sells over 3500 products in more than 11 categories. It contains stores in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Nanu is now the chairman of the company, while his sons are Nilesh and Ashish Gupta directors. His grandson Karan Gupta is also involved in business. In 2021, a senior company official said that by 2025, Vijay sales wanted to take its sales from Rs 8000 to 10,000 crore and that a target should open 200 stores.
