Myanmar: Military government announces temporary ceasefire after disastrous earthquake
Napedo, April 3 (IANS). Myanmar’s military government announced a temporary ceasefire until April 22. This announcement was made to speed up relief and reconstruction to the powerful earthquake in the country. More than three thousand people died in this earthquake, while 4.715 people were injured. At the same time, 341 people are still missing. Myanmar’s Defense Services Office issued a statement stating: “The ceasefire is being implemented to strengthen sympathy and assistance to earthquake victims. In this, attention is also paid to maintaining peace and stability in the country.” It is noteworthy that on March 28 and a few minutes later, this fierce earthquake caused a great devastation in many areas, including Mandalay area. Roads, bridges and buildings suffered serious damage, causing a large number of people’s casualties. In its statement, the military government made clear that no armed group would hinder the citizens’ trail during the ceasefire, damage the general public or their properties, not attack the security forces camps or military bases and stop any form of military mobilization or regional expansion. It is said that if a group violates these rules, the army will take the necessary safety steps. Earlier, Myanmar’s Prime Minister and Military Chief Min Aung Holiing rejected the resurrection of ethnic armed organizations. He said that some armed groups may not be involved in the war right now, but that they are preparing for the attack. Therefore, the army will continue the security campaign. The Department of Meteorological and Climate of Myanmar said on Thursday that 66 torture from 2.8 to 7.5 intensity was recorded in the country, which did more damage. -Ians DSC/EKD shares this story -tags
