The government has now begun to take a difficult stance in the increasing activities of illegal mining in the state. In a meeting held at the Marwar International Center Auditorium on Friday night, Cabinet Minister Jogaram Patel gave clear instructions to the departmental officials that illegal mining in the Luni River should be discontinued. Minister Patel, who is serving on the meeting, said that the constant exploitation of natural resources around the Luni River and around it affects the environment as well as the lifeline of the locals. In such a situation, illegal mining will not be tolerated at any cost. The Minister of Special Monitoring will be on the dumper, and instructed the officials to act immediately against the dumper and other means of transport involved in illegal mining. He said that strict legal steps should be taken on any element that provides protection to mining mafia. Monitoring of control posts and blockade must also be stopped illegally. The emphasis on departmental coordination was attended by the division of mining, police, transport department and administrative officers. Minister Patel emphasized that all departments must work together. He said that unless there is mutual coordination at the departmental level, it is difficult to fully combat activities such as illegal mining. The participation of the locals in the meeting also said it is necessary to make locals aware of illegal mining. People often become part of the mining mafia due to a lack of information. If the information system is stronger at the rural level, illegal activities can be eliminated from the root. Government’s strict policy has already started a special campaign to prevent illegal mining. Minister Patel warned officials that if there is a complaint of illegal mining in an area and the officers involved are found inactive, departmental action will also be done against them.
