Updated: Sat, 13 Sep 2025 09:49 PM (IST) The municipal corporation began preparing the ‘integrated urban stormwater drainage master plan’ to deal with the problem of water logging in Gorakhpur. Below, the drainage system of modern technology will be assessed and strengthened. There will be a recording of an area of 220 square kilometers. Water record areas will be identified. CM awarded a budget of Rs 1000 crore for this scheme. Jagran correspondent, Gorakhpur. The biggest problem of the metropolis has now taken an important step towards finding a permanent weakening solution. For this, the process is to prepare ‘Integrated Master Plan for Urban Stormwater Drainage’ (IUSWDMP). Remove ad just read the news. With the help of modern technology under this scheme, the scientific assessment of the city’s current drainage system will be strengthened, integrated and enabled for the future. The municipal corporation also strengthened the E-Nidida process of the LS rate under the quality and cost-based selection process (QCBS) for this project. According to the request for proposal (RFP), the tender firm will have to pay a bail amount of Rs 10 Lakh. The selected firm will have to prepare the report over four months. What will happen in the master plan, under this master plan, will be questioned 220 square kilometers. In this, the survey of drainage network, updated from data, integration with new proposals of continuous projects and detailed project report (DPR) will be prepared. The scheme will also include the contribution areas outside the city boundaries. There will be an extensive topographic recording, hydraulic analysis, zoning and distribution of catchment/sub -catchment in the effect area. Considering the maximum intensity of rainfall, simulation models will be prepared. The final drainage points will also suggest an initial warning system to reduce life and property damage and traffic disruption on large roads. Identifying weakened areas, priority determination of projects, utility mapping, assessment of transfer costs and hydraulic design, drawing and cost estimation will be included. The municipal corporation claims that the scheme will be effective in relieving the city of long water disposal. At the Cabinet meeting on December 17, 2024, the chief minister of Yogi Adityanath decided to form ‘Integrated Urban Steram Water Drainage Master Plan’ at the Cabinet meeting on December 17, 2024. The first phase contains 17 cities. For this, an idea of Rs 1000 crore has already been made in the financial budget. The old plan was made by spending 6.80 crores, but the Gorakhpur Municipal Corporation and Gorakhpur Development Authority (GDA) had earlier made a Ladar recording of the Geono business at a cost of Rs 6.80 crore with a participation of 50-50 percent earlier. On November 16, 2023, the company filed its final report (DPR). But the municipal corporation did not approve the DPR. The survey was conducted at a rate of Rs 1.10 lakh per square kilometer under the contract in 2019. The GDA has so far paid Rs 1.40 crore to the company while the remaining payment is pending. The main minister’s assessment meetings reported the project for many years, but the municipal corporation and other work agencies did not implement it in any project. The expenses will continue to increase in the new survey, and now the municipal corporation will conduct a new survey over the entire 220 square kilometers. It is estimated that the addition of the 2019 rates will cost more than R 2.85 crore, including GST. The cost of survey is expected to rise further with a six -year gap. Why is this master plan important? The city of Gorakhpur struggles with the problem of weakening every year. Roads are trapped for hours due to excessive rainfall of drains, traffic is coming quiet and water is flooded in many areas. It not only affects life, but also increases health -related threats. There will be scientific analysis of the city’s drainage network by the master plan, and new projects will be proposed to keep in mind the future requirements. Not only will it eliminate existing defects, but it will also help to deal with the challenges of population growth and urbanization in the future. Municipal corporation officials believe that if this scheme is implemented in time and with full seriousness, then the permanent solution for the decades -old weakening of Gorakhpur will be possible.
