Maurene Comey sue over shooting, claiming it is linked to Father James Comey-Trump Feud and her political beliefs
Maurene Comey, a veteran federal prosecutor and daughter of former FBI director James Comey, filed a lawsuit in which she disputed her dismissal as illegal and politically motivated. In her case, which was filed in the New York Federal Court on Monday against the president’s office, the Department of Justice and others, Comey said her shooting in July as assistant American lawyer in Manhattan was “illegal and unconstitutional”. She argued that she had an ‘exemplary’ record during her decade -long career and that she never got an explanation for her removal. “In fact, there is no legal statement,” the lawsuit states. “On the contrary, defendants have Ms. Comey solely or substantially fired because her father is former FBI director James B. Comey, or because of her perceived political commitment and beliefs, or both. ‘ Timing raises questions that her dismissal comes just a week after the Justice Department confirmed an unspecified criminal investigation into her father, a long -standing critic of President Donald Trump. The lawsuit has also noticed the broader context: Since the officials in January, Trump has removed the officials who considered unfaithful law firms involved with him and reduced federal financing at universities. Maurene Comey has prosecuted a series of major cases, including the charges of sex trafficking against Jeffrey Epstein, who died by suicide in 2019 before hearing. She also played a key role in the conviction of Ghislaine Maxwell, the long -standing co -worker of Epstein, who now serves a 20 -year sentence for sex trafficking of underage girls. Trump-Comy Feud James Comey’s history with Trump is loaded. The president fired him in 2017 as he led the FBI’s investigation into alleged ties between Trump’s campaign and Moscow during the 2016 election. The younger Comey’s suit believes her termination is part of a broader pattern of retaliation.
