Massive fire engulfs firecracker godown: On Tuesday, a firecracker warehouse in Banaskantha, Gujarat and collapsed parts of the building killed 18 people and injured 5 others. The incident took place at around 9.45 am in the warehouse near Deesa town. According to District Police SP Akshayraj Makwana, “18 people died in the incident and five others were injured after the building slab collapsed after a severe explosion.”

Investigation of case continues

The deceased was the laborers of Madhya Pradesh and their family members and most of them died due to the fall of the slab. This unit was to store firecrackers and so far no clue has been found whether firecrackers were being made there or not. Whereas earlier officials had said that this is a factory.

Law of compensation

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel expressed grief over the incident and announced financial assistance of Rs four lakh to the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured. Patel said in a post on the social media forum ‘X’, ‘The incident of death of workers due to fire in a cracker warehouse in Dees and falling slabs is going to shock. In this hour of grief, I have deep condolences with the relatives of the deceased.

He said, ‘I am in constant touch with the administration regarding relief, rescue and treatment work in this accident. I have instructed the administration that the injured should get proper treatment at the earliest. The state government will provide Rs 4 lakh to the families of the dead and Rs 50,000 to the injured. I pray that God give peace to the soul of the dead employees and make the injured health soon.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has also expressed grief over the untimely death of the employees of Madhya Pradesh in this incident. Yadav said that the Madhya Pradesh government is in constant touch with the officials of Gujarat. He said that the employees affected by the incident will be given full assistance. Yadav said that all necessary efforts will be made to help the employees and their families. (Language)
