BNPT invites media to prevent terrorism in digital space
Jakarta – Head of the National CounterRorism Agency (BNPT), Eddy Hartono emphasized that his party occurs in the digital space as one of the main focus. Because the rapid digital transformation currently carries two sides for people’s lives. On the one hand, the cyber room offers opportunities to expand literacy, communication and social interaction. But on the other hand, this space is also often used by radical groups to distribute propaganda, ideology of violence to recruit members. It was unveiled by Eddy, he said this during a visit to the Antara News Agency Monday (9/22). Browse to continue with the content on this occasion, Eddy emphasized that the use of digital space must be wisely managed to not become a way to spread terrorism. “We all know that this era for digital transformation is definitely a cyber or digital space to be important for us to make guidance or use as a way to make prevention efforts in digital space. We all know that this digital space can be a positive way, also a negative way,” Eddy said in a written statement, Tuesday (9/23/2025). As a real implementation, BNPT forms a counter -task force whose duty is to map the platform, content, on the substance that has the potential to be used to spread radical understanding. This step is so directed that digital space remains a healthy and productive place for the younger generation and the wider community. “So that it doesn’t spread, the young generation can affect now and the community. Of course, all our elements of society hope to participate actively,” says Eddy. Furthermore, Eddy emphasized that strengthening the contra -radicalization was part of the national priority agenda, as mentioned in the National Medium Term Development Plan (RPJMN). This includes strategic steps to adapt to ideology, narrative and propaganda that often spread in the cyber room and in conventional rooms. “In the RPJMN that it is an interpretation of the ASTA Cita president where BNPT has four national priority activities, one of which is to strengthen the counter -radicalization activities. The contra -radicalization is to carry out ideology, narrative and anti -propaganda, it is done in the cyber or digital room,” Meanwhile, Irfan Junaidi, director of the Antara report, emphasized that the challenge of cyberspace is a homework to be completed together. Because the challenges of cyberspace are faced not only by government officials, but also the media, the community and all stakeholders. “Yes, the development of media technology, especially social media, is two sides of the sword, one side can provide extensive benefits, and accelerate information that can be quickly in a short time, the wider community can reach, but on the other hand it may also have the potential to be abused,” Irfan said. According to Irfan, radical groups also did not remain silent, but rather he used the development of digital technology to expand their influence. “Groups of violence should also be aware of this, so that it is not possible for them to take advantage of the development of digital technology for campaigns, recruitment, to spread their influence,” says Irfan. However, Irfan emphasized that the mass media has a stricter control mechanism than social media. It has become one of the most important strongholds to maintain the quality of information received by the community. “If it can be more difficult for the mass media because the processing process to broadcast information in the mass media is a reasonable assessment, there are filters. If social media is very open now, it may be a homework we need to do together,” says Irfan. (PRF/EGA)
