In light of the constant demand for rural housing, the Union Cabinet has approved the continuation of the scheme for the next five years (FY 2024-25 to FY 2028-29) with an extra target of 2 crore homes, which resulted in a total target of 4.95 crores. The official document said: “From August 4, 2025, a total target of a total of 4.12 crore homes was assigned by the ministry to states and trade union areas, of which 3.85 crore houses were approved and more than 2.82 crore homes were completed.” For FY 2025-26 (until July 2025), a total of 32.9 Lakh houses were targeted under this scheme, of which 25.6 Lakh houses were already approved. According to the government’s data, a total of 216.73 Lakh houses were approved from FY 2020-21 to FY 2024-25 over a four-year period, of which 176.47 were completed, which reflects ongoing progress in housing development. The scheme provides financial assistance to rural families to build Pucca houses with basic facilities, including homeless families and people living in raw homes with zero, one or two rooms. The beneficiaries also get drinking water, LPG, renewable energy and construction material from the pipe through coordination with other government programs. Pmay-G has made a significant improvement in rural housing by reducing poverty, improving the standard of living and promoting social and economic development, which reflects ongoing progress in strengthening infrastructure in the rural housing. -Ians abs/
