The fast launched by Sonam Wangchuk to claim the sixth schedule and the state status in Ladakh became a sudden controversy on Wednesday when a crowd of protesters attacked and set fire to the BJP party office and the head of the executive councilor of Leh. According to the statement issued by the government, Wangchuk began quickly from September 10, 2025. The government says the central government was in talks with the Apex body Leh and Kargil Democratic Alliance on Ladakh’s demands. For this, formal dialogue and many informal meetings were held by the High-Powered Committee (HPC) and subcommittee. The government said that under this dialogue process, the proviso for scheduled tribes (ST) was increased from 45 percent to 84 percent, which gave 1/3 reservation to women in local councils and gave state language status to Bhoti and Purugi languages. With this, the recruitment process for 1,800 posts also began. The government said all these steps were taken to fulfill the pursuit of the people of Ladakh. The government’s statement said some politically motivated individuals are not satisfied with the progress under HPC and that they are trying to prevent this process. At the same time, the next meeting of HPC is scheduled on October 6, while on September 25 and 26 it is planned to meet the leaders. The government claims that Sonam Wangchuk has provoked people during her by giving examples such as ‘Arab Spring’ and ‘Nepal of Nepal’. On September 24 at 11:30, a crowd broke out of the fast and broke at the office and the government office of a political party. Officers were set on fire, police vehicles were burned and more than 30 police and CRPF staff were injured. The police had to fire in self -defense, in which there was also a loss of life and property. The situation was taken under control by 16:00. The government said that although these violent incidents occurred, Sonam Wangchuk quietly broke the fast and to his town by ambulance, but he made no serious effort to calm the situation.
