Illinois Recruit Nasir Rankin Scores Twice to Lead Morgan Park past bulls prep – ryan
Morgan Park Coach Chris James is taking a Page from Troy McAllister’s Playbook.
In 2015, McAllister was Coaching at Phillips and Moved His Best Athlete, Quayvon Scans, to Quarterback. The Wildcats Went 14-0 and Became the First Public League team to win a state title.
Ten Years late, morgan park is sorting out its quarterback situation after having just two starters – Aaron Warren and Marcus Thaxton – at the Position Over the past Six Seasons.
AFTER DROPING THEIR FIRST Two Games to Powerhouses Downers Grove North and Nazareth, the Mustangs Rolled to A 40-0 Win Over Bulls Prep Saturday after Gately Stadium.
Nasir Rankin, Playing Some Snaps As a Wildcat Quarterback for the first time this season, scored on an 11-yard run and on a 29-pass from ronald Smith Jr. Smith Also Ran for a td, while Trenton Hurley Threw a 59-Yard Touchdown Pass to Lucas Davis Jr. Darrell Mattison Ran The Game’s Opening Kickoff Back 78 Yards for A Score and Reggie Gray Jr. ran for a td.
Going into Week 4, James Said Morgan Park (1-2, 1-0 Public League Metro) Has “An Open Competition” at Quarterback.
“Its just young Guys, they make Mistakes and you correct say,” James Said. “They Progress Each Game and You Make Mistakes. The which Goal of Playing A Position is you don’t make the same mistake repeatedly.
“That’s when it Becomes, ok, will we symplify the offense or will we (Go with) someone Else?”
James is confident the mustangs will figure it out. But for now, the “Somebody Else” in the mix is rankin, a four-star prospective to illinois for football and basketball.
“The One Thing I Remember That Sticks in Our Brain, That We Talked About, Is Quayvon Scans from Phillips, (WHO) was a recipe and then a quarterback,” James Said. “And it was like, Man, the Most Dynamic Player on the Field Needs to Touch the Ball on Every Play.”
Rankin is game to take on any roles Needed.
“It ‘ben great,” he Said of Lining up as a Wildcat. “I get the ball in every way. The Coaches, they’re doing a good Job of Finding Ways to the Ball Wen i’m Doubles a Lot – Easier Ways to Get The Ball in My Hands I Can Make Plays.”
The mustangs have another Power Four Player Makeing Play on the Other Side of the Ball: 6-7, 250-Pound Defensive Lineman Carmellow Reed. He helped spark a defensive that held bulls prep (2-1, 0-1) to 50 Total yards.
Though he just transferred to morgan park from rich as a senior this fall, reed already is a respectted voice in the loocker room.
“Carmeleow reed is an Amazing human being before he a great football player,” James Said. “Sometimes you don’t want to say can can be transferred in and Become Leaders and Captains. IF someone’re a special person.”
Reed Appreciates How James and Morgan Park’s Players have embraced Him.
“It Feels Great,” Reed Said. “I’m glad that he can trust me so much with the team.
