Mondiacult 2025, Menbud confirmed the role of the Republic of Indonesia for the direction of global cultural policy
Jakarta – Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon attended the UNESCO World Conference on Cultural Policy and Sustainable Development (Mondiacult) 2025 in Barcelona, Spain. This high -level conference was held by the Spanish government by UNESCO, and became a forum to confirm the direction of global cultural policy. Between the series Unesco Mondiacult 2025 activities, Fadli had a dialogue with the Minister of Culture of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Salem Bin Khalid Al Qassimi. In addition to strengthening cultural cooperation, the UAE also officially invited Indonesia as guest of honor at the Al-Burda Award 2026 International Islamic Arts Festival in Abu Dhabi. Salem expressed his hope to show the wealth of Indonesian culture in the UAE, including calligraphy, poetry, lighting and Islamic organizations, as well as providing room for young Indonesian artists. Since 1976, the UAE and Indonesia have been working together to build partnerships in different sectors, especially culture. Indonesia and the UAE have also agreed to investigate new collaboration opportunities, such as joint film production, artist provision, museum innovation and digital collaboration programs. “We are also investigating opportunities for collaboration between Islamic civilization exhibitions, the exchange of scientists and curators, as well as cooperation in research and digitalization of cultural heritage,” Fadli said. In addition to strengthening cultural cooperation with the UAE, Fadli also met with the Secretary of State for Spain Culture, Jordi Martí. This meeting discussed the planned update of Cultural and Educational Cooperation Agreement (2004) focused on collaboration with cultural heritage and museum, as well as the strengthening of the cultural industry sector. “Spain currently has a very good national museum network such as Prado, Reina Sofía and Thyssen-Bornemisza. They also have a very active audiovisual industry, and in 2024 noticed more than 13 million viewers. This is an important opportunity to deepen cultural collaboration between the two countries,” Fadli said. Fadli also encouraged the exchange of artists and curators, joint exhibitions, arts and film festivals and digital innovations in the management of cultural heritage. “With the agreement of Indonesia-Eu CEPA last week, cultural collaboration has become more strategic to strengthen the foundation of friendship, expand the economic network and make culture the most important pillar of bilateral relations between Indonesia and Spain,” Fadli said. For information, Mondiacult highlighted six priority areas, including cultural rights, digital transformation, culture and education, cultural economy, cultural and climate action, as well as two urgent new issues, namely cultural contributions to peace and the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on culture.
