Not just domestically, the prosecutor's office also serves abroad
Jakarta – The prosecutor’s profession is not only limited in the country, but also in all parts of the world. As felt by the consul of the prosecutors’ consular consulate of the Republic of Indonesia in Hong Kong Hendry Yosep Kindangen. Hendry has done his duties in Hong Kong since February 25, saying that this assignment was not easy. Because the function and role of the prosecutor’s office also reach the jurisdiction abroad, especially in the legal protection for Indonesian citizens (WNI) and legal diplomacy between countries. “It’s a great confidence. I thank the attorney -general and the leadership of the prosecutors for this mandate,” Hendry said, from 20 seconds, Wednesday (1/10/2025). Browse to continue the content assignment on diplomacy is not new to Hendry. Previously, in 2014-2017, Hendry served as head of subdivision of foreign cooperation in the Bureau of Law and Foreign Relations of the Office of the Indonesian Attorney General. “I also don’t know if the track record is a consideration, but of course we are grateful because it is a great belief in the world,” Hendry said. As a prosecutor assigned abroad, the challenges facing are not just about the law, but also how to understand and work with different institutions and diverse work culture. “In the prosecutor’s office, we are one background. But in the Consulate General, each section has a responsibility for another agency. This is where the importance of adjustment,” Hendry explained. According to Hendry, the core of a prosecutor does not lie at the place of his command, but on the ability to answer challenges with the values of Tri Krama Adhyaksa: Satya (loyalty), ADHI (responsibility) and Wicaksana (wisdom). “So if the three elements are expelled, the most dominant word of the soul is responsibility. It is now the most important responsibility,” Hendry said. “When we speak responsibility, this is how we maintain the balance of all existing stakeholders, our part,” he continued. One of the important responsibilities of Hendry in Hong Kong is to communicate directly with Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) that are with different backgrounds. “The approach to PMI cannot be one pattern. They have different needs and conditions, so the approach must also be adjusted,” Hendry said. Hendry argued, the task of the prosecutor’s office abroad was not only a matter of law enforcement, but also became a bridge of communication, legal protection and advocacy for Indonesian citizens. In addition, Hendry is confronted with another work culture compared to the time of the command in Indonesia. “We maintain a balance between the interests of constitutional law and community protection. This is where the importance of effective legal diplomacy,” Hendry said. Together with the Attorney General, Detikcom presents a special program that reveals the reality of law enforcement and justice in Indonesia. This program not only emphasized the efforts of the prosecutors’ people in completing matters, but also revealed the story of the dedication and social role of inspirational prosecutors. This program is expected to open a public horizon of the importance of the prosecutors’ institution within the framework of development and maintaining the rule of law in the community.
