Discord user data leaked after the violation of the customer service partner: Here's what is exposed
Communication platform Discord confirmed that the user data was compromised during a third-party customer service hack. The platform, with over 200 million users, enables its customers to send free text, voice and video messages in private chats or through private communities called ‘Servers’. Discord confirmed that the hack influenced a ‘limited number of users’ communicating with the company’s customer service team. The hackers did not directly access Discord, but received the data via one of the company’s third-party customer service providers. The platform says the hack was exported to access user data and enforce a financial ransom from disagreement. “Recently, we discovered an incident where an unauthorized party jeopardized one of Discord’s third-party customer service providers. The unauthorized party then gained access to information from a limited number of users who contacted Discord through our customer service and/or trust and security teams, ‘Discord said in the blog post. “Once we became aware of this attack, we immediately took steps to address the situation. This includes the recall of the customer service provider’s access to our ticket system, the introduction of an internal investigation, a leading computer forensic firm to support our investigation and remediation attempts and tackle law enforcement,” the company added. What data was jeopardized by the Discord Hack? Discord says the impacts data is related to the customer service system, which may include: name, Discord username, e -mail and other contact details if provided to Discord customer service. In addition, ‘limited billing information’ such as the payment type, the last four digits of the user’s credit card, and the user, can also be compromised with the user’s IP address, customer service agents and limited corporate data such as training materials and internal presentations. The company also notes that hackers can also ‘access a small number of government ID images (eg driver’s license, passport) from users who appeal an age determination.’ Discord assures users that their complete credit card numbers and CVV, password, verification data and messages or activity on disagreement discussed above that have been discussed with customer service are safe. The company says it notified the relevant data protection authorities and worked proactively with law enforcement to investigate the attack. It also began to send e -mails to the users concerned to notify them about the attack.
