It can cause serious health effects in the long run, ranging from organ disorders, nervous system damage, to increase the risk of cancer. The government should not only act if the incident has already occurred,” he said. Yahya emphasized the importance of thorough and regular health tests for workers and communities around the affected locations. According to Yahya, the government must move quickly to ensure that integrated health services are available and accessible. “And it is very important that the monitoring of the health and safety of workers in the industrial sector is reinforced. This is to ensure that the public’s health and safety and workers are maximized,” the Legislature of the East Java election district VIII added. Not only that, Yahya also requested that social protection be activated for workers. According to him, BPJS employment is obliged to ensure that workers in the area receive full social security at risk due to radiation. “The state must be present to pay attention to the interests of the people, especially workers. Don’t let anyone feel as if they should struggle alone to face the impact of industrial negligence,” Yahya emphasizes. Yahya also urged the Ministry of Manpower to immediately execute job safety audits of companies in high-risk areas. “It must be ensured that all radiation safety protocols are ensured that they are strictly adhered to. Companies that are negligent must be subject to sanctions because it harms the people and workers and even the state,” he said. Yahya encouraged the Ministry of Manpower and Bapeten to accelerate the national certification of the occupational safety and health (K3), especially in the industrial sector that handles dangerous and toxic materials (B3), including radioactive waste. Furthermore, Yahya judged that the poor monitoring and coordination system between institutions was one of the most important causes of cases such as this. Yahya talked about the importance of consolidation on ministries such as the Ministry of Manpower, Bapeten, the Ministry of the Environment and the Regional Government, so that the waste management and job safety monitoring system runs optimally. “It is not just a technical industrial issue, but concerns the safety of the citizens and the future of our world of work. The DPR RI will continue to oversee so that these improvements are in reality,” Yahya said. (Eva/deck)
