IPS Puran Kumar suicide case: outrage among Dalit leaders, warning of Chandigarh Jam

People from the Dalit community are angry about the suicide and have warned that they are blocking Chandigarh if this case is not taken strictly against the accused. Amneet P. Kumar, wife of the deceased officer, also demanded strict action against the senior officers mentioned in the suicide letter. At the same time, Ravi Kundli, a member of the 31-member committee of Dalit leaders from outdoor states, warned that if the government did not take action against the accused, Chandigarh would be blocked. He said: “We have formed a 31-member committee of all the Dalit organizations. A meeting of this committee was summoned in Chandigarh tomorrow, in which the form of further movement will be decided. The statement comes three days after the death of IPS Kumar, when his daughter found his body at his home in Chandigarh on October 7. Kumar committed suicide by shooting himself in the head. Puran Kumar, who was an adgp ranking officer, called several IAS-IPS officers, including Haryana DGP Shatrujit Singh Kapoor and Rohtak SP Narendra Bijraniya, in the 8-9 pages suicide letter. In the note, he claims harassment and spiritual torture. His wife Amneet, an officer of Haryana Cadre Ias, was on an official visit to Japan. On his return, he filed a complaint with Chandigarh police on October 8 demanding a fir in terms of section 108 (the suicide) and the SC-ST law. He met Chief Minister Naib Singh Sainin and called on the arrest and suspension of the said officers.
