The emphasis on urban farming and confidence in Tripura, Dhlai-Khwai will soon be self-sufficient in food grains

Agartala, October 11 (IANS). The Tripura government emphasizes urban farming in the cities of the state. Two more state districts, Dhalai and Khowai, will soon be self -sufficient in food cereal production. Ratan Lal Nath, Minister of Agriculture and Farmers, announced this on Saturday. Minister Ratan Lal Nath said that out of the total of eight districts in the state, South Tripura, Sipahijala and Gomti, is already self -sufficient in food grain production. After listening to the speech of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the introduction of two ambitious schemes in the agricultural sector, he said there was a big rainfall in Tripura because production was good, but the attack of pests on crops is a big problem. “Earlier, we imported potatoes from outside Tripura, but within three years we will also become self-sufficient in potato and onion production. Now we encourage farmers to grow more pulses. We also focus on organic farming and production is gradually increasing,” he said. He said Tripura production was limited due to less arable land. The minister said: “If we had more land, we could have yielded more. Our farmers are very hardworking. If the rain is favorable, Dhalai and Khowai will also become self -sufficient in food grain production. In the Western district, due to a higher population and less land, we focus on urban farming, especially corticure.” Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched two important schemes in the agricultural sector, Pradhan Mantri Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana (PMDDKY), on Saturday, and Pules Self-Reliance Mission (Pulse Self-Reliance Mission), with an interpretation of Rs 35,440 crore. Apart from the Minister of Agriculture Nath, Chief Minister Manik Saha and senior officials also participated in the program organized by virtual medium in Agartala. The Minister of Agriculture said the Pradhan Mantri Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana is aimed at covering 100 districts, including North Tripura district, as food grain production in these districts is low. He said, “North Tripura district is in the back of the production of different crops, while from the total eight districts in the state, South Tripura, Sipahijala and Gomati districts, is already self-sufficient in food grain production. Per hectare, while in Tripura 3,299 kg per hectare.”
