Number of illegal drones has decreased near Incheon International Airport this year

Seoul, October 12 (IANS). The number of unauthorized drones detected in the airspace around Incheon International Airport, the main gate west of Seoul, has dropped significantly this year. This information was received from the data released on Sunday. According to the data released by Incheon International Airport Corporation, eight illegal drone flights were caught without prior consent of the authorities within a 9.3-mile radius of the airport’s controlled airspace between January and September. During the same nine months last year, 24 unauthorized drone flights were detected, compared to 74 cases two years ago. In 2022, the number 119 will reach the cited period, reports Yonhap News Agency. The airport operator attributed the decline to the maintenance of the amended Aviation Safety Act, which increased the maximum fines for illegal drone operations, and continued the public awareness campaigns and issued strict notices on drone without flight areas. Meanwhile, more than 210,000 passengers traveled through Chuseok holidays through Incheon International Airport daily during the eight days, the highest daily average during the holidays, according to data released on Sunday. According to data compiled by the airport, an average of 217,613 passengers used the airport between October 2 and 9, an increase of 6.4 percent compared to the same period a year earlier. A total of 1.74 million passengers used the airport, west of Seoul, the main gate of South Korea, during the period. This figure is the highest daily average for the Chuseok holiday since the airport opened in 2001 and the second highest among all holiday periods. –Is SCH/DKP Share This Story Tags
