West Bengal: The glory of earthen lamps has returned again in Midnapore, a wave of happiness among the potters.

Midnapore, October 18 (IANS). Now there are only two days left for Diwali and Kali Puja in West Bengal, which everyone is excited about. This time there is a special glow on the faces of the potter families of the district, the reason behind the increasing demand for earthen lamps. In a special conversation with IANS, Potters told that once upon a time there was a good demand for earthen lamps on Diwali. For several years, due to the dominance of Chinese lamps, the demand for our traditional lamps has decreased. Now they are happy that the demand for lamps has increased again. According to him, he has noticed in the last few years that the demand for earthen lamps has started to increase again. Therefore, this time he emphasized on making earthen lamps and delivering them to the Dashkarma shops in various markets of the district. This time he made twice as many lamps as last year. He hopes that the demand for earthen lamps will also be good this time. According to the owners of shops selling earthen items, the demand for earthen lamps has increased significantly in the last few years. Their sales decreased due to the introduction of garlands of electric lights. Electric lights cost a lot and don’t last long. In the beginning, everyone thought that electric lights would last longer. This is why people were inclined to this, but when they realized that this thinking was wrong, they returned to earthen lamps. Apart from this, the demand for indigenous electric lights is also increasing due to the closure of Chinese lights. The owner of the electrical shop told that last year we had to fight with the customers to sell Chinese lights, but this year our native lights are sold in large quantities, the customers have no problem and the quality is also good. –IANS ASH/SCH Share this story Tags
