Pakistan-Afghanistan agreed on immediate ceasefire in Doha talks

Beijing, October 19 (IANS). According to a statement from Qatar’s foreign ministry, Pakistan and Afghanistan agreed to an immediate ceasefire during a round of talks held in the Qatari capital Doha. The statement said the mediation by Qatar and Turkey resulted in the two sides reaching an agreement to end hostilities and establish mechanisms aimed at promoting lasting peace and stability between the two neighboring countries. The two sides also agreed to hold follow-up meetings in the coming days to ensure the durability of the ceasefire and verify its implementation in a credible and sustainable manner, thereby contributing to the achievement of security and stability in both countries, the statement said. Qatar’s foreign ministry expressed hope that the move would help reduce border tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan and lay a solid foundation for lasting peace in the region.
