Hotel investment in Padang, OSO: Evidence of the role of Gebu Minang in building the region

Jakarta – After ceasing operations for some time, the Bumi Minang Hotel located on Jalan Bundo Kanduang no. 20-28, Kampung Pondok Village, West Padang District, now officially given a new lease of life. This legendary hotel, once a favorite in the city of Padang, is now owned and will be managed by the OSO Group headed by the General Chairman of the Gebu Minang Central Management Board (DPP), Oesman Sapta. Marking the start of this massive renovation project was marked by the laying of the first stone which was directly led by the Mayor of Padang, Fadly Amran today. He hopes that this step can be an inspiration to other Minang migrants to contribute to the development of the region. “The renovation of the Bumi Minang Hotel is in line with the investment-friendly spirit of the Padang City Government. We hope that the return of this hotel will become a driving force for the Padang City tourism industry, opening up new jobs and stimulating local MSMEs,” said Fadly in his statement, Monday (20/10/2025). Meanwhile, Oesman expressed his interest in the Bumi Minang Hotel because it has a very strategic location, in the city center and close to several top tourist attractions in Padang City. “We want to make Hotel Bumi Minang an international standard hotel that still maintains Minangkabau cultural values. The design will carry a semi-modern concept combined with traditional touches,” he explained. He said that the hotel renovation will be carried out comprehensively, from the exterior appearance, interior, to supporting facilities such as an international standard ballroom and comfortable accommodation rooms. “God willing, we aim to complete this project within one to two years,” concluded Oesman. For your information, the Bumi Minang Hotel itself is a historic four-star hotel in the city of Padang that was established in 1991. However, after the great earthquake of September 30, 2009, the hotel building suffered significant damage, and it changed managers until it finally ceased operations in the last few years. (acd/acd)
