Police Investigate Unud Student Death Case, 19 Witnesses Investigated
Jakarta – West Denpasar Police are currently investigating the death of a student at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) at Udayana University (Unud) with the initials TAS (22). The police examined 19 witnesses on the case. West Denpasar Police Chief Commissioner Laksmi Trisnadewi Wieryawan said the witnesses investigated included lecturers, the victim’s classmates, the victim’s friends and campus security guards. According to him, on average, the witnesses revealed that TAS’s personality had good intellectual abilities, so it was unlikely that TAS would take careless actions and end his life tragically. “Of the 19 witnesses we asked for information, they said on average that this victim was a smart person, his speech was very meaningful,” says Laksmi as reported by Antara, Monday (20/10/2025). If they were then to become the victims of bullying from their friends, they felt that there was a very small possibility that this would happen. Because this victim was a person with principles, not the type who will easily be bullied like that,” he said. After investigating the crime scene (CSI), the police stated that the victim had fallen from the fourth floor. This was confirmed by testimony from three eyewitnesses and CCTV footage. Witnesses saw the victim sitting on a chair, before eventually leaving his shoes and bag on the couch the victim was sitting on. Police said the CCTV on the 4th floor of the FISIP Unud Building, Sudirman Campus, has been damaged since 2023, so it did not record the victim’s incident before he fell on the campus ground. However, Unud denied that the CCTV on the 4th floor was still functioning properly. It’s just that the victim’s condition was in a blind spot at that point. “Our CCTV is functioning well. The deceased was caught on a CCTV camera walking in the corridor, that’s there. However, he was not caught by CCTV after that. This was also checked with the police,” said head of Udayana University’s Public Communication Unit, Ni Nyoman Dewi Pascarani.
