A team of 15 members from South Africa caught 45 blackbucks using ‘Boma technique’. They will be released in Gandhisagar Sanctuary or Mandsaur, where two leopards have recently settled. This effort is made to increase the availability of food for leopards and maintain the balance of wildlife. This operation will continue until November 5. Nilgai was not caught on Monday. The forest department intends to relocate 400 blackbuck and 100 nilgai. All these deer will be released in Gandhisagar Sanctuary in Mandsaur district, where two male leopards Prabhas and Pavak have been settled recently. This campaign is a big step towards ensuring sufficient food for cheetahs and balancing the wildlife population. Deer caught by helicopter started at 6 am on Monday in Kalapipal and Shajapur area. The deer were driven to the ‘V’ shaped green corridor using a helicopter. Cages are installed at the end of this corridor. The animals were scared by the sound of the helicopter and ran in the same direction and caught in the cages. The entire process took place under the surveillance of drone cameras and teams deployed on the ground. What is Boma Technique? Boma technique is used in South Africa to catch wild animals. In this technique, a ‘V’ shaped green path is created in a less residential and quiet area. It is kept green and food is also kept for the animals. The animals are slowly driven in one direction by the sound of helicopters and vehicles. They themselves enter the safe cages at the end. Forest Department’s target: According to the Forest Department, there are about 20 thousand black deer and two thousand Nilgai in this area. Of these, permission was given to move 400 blackbuck and 100 nilgai. Deer were caught on Monday but Nilgai was not found. Initiative of local leaders Kalapipal MLA Ghanshyam Chandravanshi and Shujalpur MLA Inder Singh Parmar demanded transfer in view of increasing number of deer and damage to crops. This campaign was started on his initiative and in coordination with the Forestry Department. Arrangement of food for leopards: Two leopards are already present in Gandhisagar Sanctuary. The arrival of these blackbucks will ensure sufficient food supply for the leopards and maintain the natural balance in the forest. This operation will continue until November 5. The Forest Department said that the entire process is done under environmental guidelines and special care is taken to ensure that the animals are not harmed in any way.
