Her journey from dreaming of becoming an investment banker to becoming a national award-winning actress is one of the most unexpected and inspiring stories of the Indian film industry. Parineeti’s early life was far away from the film sets of Mumbai. He obtained a triple honors degree in Finance and Economics. His intention was to become a great investment banker. The major turning point in the story came in 2009, when the global economic recession closed the doors of employment in the banking sector. Seeing her dreams on hold, Parineeti returned to India and began an internship in the marketing and public relations (PR) department of Yash Raj Films (YRF) with the help of her cousin, Priyanka Chopra. This is where the most unique story of his career begins. Parineeti once admitted in an interview that she was not particularly fond of acting, but rather considered it a job of make-up and show-off. Now his job was to handle the PR of the same actors behind the scenes, including his first film co-star Anushka Sharma. While working at YRF, the casting director of the studio, seeing his personality, jokingly asked him to give a dummy audition. Taking it as just a game, Parineeti got some dialogues recorded by Kareena Kapoor’s character ‘Geet’ in the film ‘Jab We Met’. This unofficial audition tape reached YRF head Aditya Chopra. He was so impressed by Parineeti’s natural energy and acting talent that he immediately removed her from the marketing department and offered her a three-film acting contract. He told Parineeti that she was wasting her time in PR and her place was in front of the camera. After this, in the year 2011, she made a big debut with a supporting role in the film ‘Ladies vs Ricky Bahl’ and won the Filmfare Award for Best Debut Actress. The very next year in 2012, he received the National Film Award – Special Mention for his lead role in the film Ishaqzaade. The rest is history. –IANS JP/PSK
