KPK is shocked that there is an illegal mine near Mandalika: production of 3 kg gold per day

Jakarta – The KPK said that there are many illegal gold mines about 1 hour from Mandalika Circle, Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara. The Corruption Eradication Committee (KPK) said it initially did not expect to know about the existence of this illegal gold mine. “I also just found out. I never thought that on Lombok Island, 1 hour from Mandalika, there is a big gold mine, I just found out,” Head of the KPK Region V Coordination and Supervision Task Team, Dian Patria, said on Tuesday (10/21/2025) at the KPK Building, Kuningan, South Jakarta. This was obtained after the KPK went directly to the field. “And it is extraordinary, it seems that you can get 3 kilos of gold in 1 day, just 1 hour from Mandalika and it seems that there are many illegal gold mines in Lombok,” he said. “Then we coordinate all kinds of things, we accompany them. So we go to the field, we invite them, so if we are at Korsup, the coordination of prevention surveillance can be even broader,” he added. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has asked related parties to enforce the rules. Legal action is also handed over to the parties concerned. “We are not just talking directly about whether there are criminal acts of corruption or not. There can be sectoral criminal acts, whether forestry, environment, tax, we encourage those who have the authority to enforce the rules,” he said. Furthermore, Dian also said that there were illegal mines on a larger scale than the one in Lombok. The mine is in Sumbawa, NTB. “Earlier, the 3 kilo one was in West Lombok. There is also one in Sumbawa, in Lantung, yes. This is an even bigger place for illegal mining,” he added. (ial/mo)
