Huge fire breaks out in the Garib Rath Express train in Punjab, passengers just escaped

A coach of Garib Rath Express going from Ludhiana to Delhi caught fire on Saturday morning. This incident happened near Sirhind station in Punjab. Initial investigation revealed that the fire started due to short circuit. There was chaos at the station due to the fire. According to railway officials, no passenger was injured in this incident. DRM of Northern Railway, Ambala said that a fire broke out in train number 12204 (Amritsar-Saharsa Garib Rath Express) at Sirhind Junction (SIR). Railway staff and local officials reached the spot. The situation is under control and no casualties have been reported so far. The accident took place at 7.30 am, when the train had just passed Sirhind station. It is said that the fire broke out in AC coach number 19, in which there were many passengers from Ludhiana. When smoke started coming out of the carriage, the passengers got scared. The driver stopped the train by applying emergency brakes. The loco pilot immediately controlled the train by applying emergency brakes and instructed all the passengers to get off safely. During this time, the people sitting in the carriage somehow managed to run away, leaving their luggage behind. There are reports of many passengers injured in this chaos. However, Railways has not confirmed this. Fire crews immediately reached the spot. On receiving information about the accident, teams from Railways, Police and Fire Brigade reached the spot. Firefighters brought the fire under control after about an hour of hard work. Fortunately there were no casualties. However, the luggage of many passengers was either burnt or remained in the carriage. Immediately after the accident, the train staff and TTE immediately took control of the situation and informed the railway control. Following the instructions of the officers, the passengers were safely moved to another carriage. Railways has ordered an investigation into the accident to find out the exact cause of the fire.
