110 Indonesian citizens escape from scam online business in Cambodia, 67 people immediately returned home
Jakarta – A number of Indonesian nationals (WNI) are suspected of being involved in a riot while trying to escape from an online fraud ‘company’ in Chrey Thum city, Kandal province, Cambodia. The Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in Phnom Penh noted that 110 Indonesian citizens have now been detained and 67 people will be repatriated. The Indonesian embassy initially received data that 97 people had been arrested. Most recently, there are now 110 Indonesian citizens. “Since October 17, 2025, the Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh has continued to coordinate with the Cambodian police and related parties after receiving reports of riots involving Indonesian citizens in Chrey Thum City, Kandal Province,” the Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh wrote via its Instagram account, Wednesday (22/510/2022). Scroll TO CONTINUE CONTENT The Indonesian Embassy explained that the 110 Indonesian citizens are being held in local immigration detention. They are registered to be sent home. “From the results of the search, 110 Indonesian nationals were successfully detained from the spot and are now in Preak Pnov Immigration Detention Center, Phnom Penh for the data collection and repatriation process,” he said. The Indonesian Embassy continues to ensure the protection of all Indonesian citizens. The plan is for 67 people to be sent back to Indonesia. “The Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh continues to ensure protection for all Indonesian citizens, with 67 people scheduled to return to Indonesia on October 22-24, 2025,” he said. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) said the Indonesian citizens were involved in a riot. That’s why someone was detained by the police. “Of the 86, four of them are being detained at the police station, because based on the results of the investigation, they were the ones who committed the violence. It is suspected that the violence was carried out against other Indonesian citizens,” said the Director of Protection for Indonesian Citizens at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Judha Nugraha, in Cikini, Monday, (20). He said the riot took place on October 17. The Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh met the Indonesian citizens at the police station. “We provide consular access so that friends from the Indonesian embassy can meet Indonesian citizens at the police station,” he said.
