TNB College has given four Chief Ministers to Bihar. Leaders like Jagannath Mishra, Bhagwat Jha Azad studied in this college. Many university teachers also played a role in politics. The development of youth leadership is hampered due to student union elections that have not been held since 2019. Preparations are underway to hold elections. Bihar Elections Tilkamanjhi Bhagalpur University (TMBU) was not only an important center of education but it also proved to be a fertile ground from the point of view of politics. The university and the colleges under it have given many such public representatives not only to Bihar but also to the country, who have left a deep impression in the society with their work style, ideology and leadership ability. Ravi Shankar Kumar Chaudhary, head of the history department of TNB College, Jagannath Mishra, Bhagwat Jha Azad, Satish Prasad Singh and Daroga Prasad Rai were students of this college, while the shortest serving chief minister Satyendra Prasad Sinha was a teacher here. Former Railway Minister Lalit Narayan Mishra and the current Bhagalpur MLA Ajit Sharma were also students of this college. The history of the university is deeply connected to politics. TMBU had an illustrious past from the political point of view. Dr. Ramji Singh, the founder president of Gandhi Vichar Vibhag and senior leader of Janata Party, started his political journey from here and traveled all the way to Parliament. Many teachers from the university also played an active role in politics. Congress leader Dr. Shivchandra Jha was a professor in the Department of Rural Economics of the University, who later became an MLA and Assembly Speaker. Professor in History Department, Diwakar Prasad Singh was a Legislative Council Member and Minister of Education. Urdu department professor Lutfur Rahman was elected MLA from Nathnagar, while Murarka College professor Lalit Narayan Mandal became MLA from Sultanganj. Dr Yogendra Mahato, Dr Kshmendra Prasad Singh, Dr Ratan Mandal, Dr JC Many teachers like Choudhary and Dr Vindicator Ravidas also registered their active presence in politics. Although not all of them achieved electoral success, their role in society and student politics was noteworthy. This time too many teachers were in the race for the ticket, including syndicate member prof. Dr. Sanjay Rajak, Assistant Professor of Ambedkar Department, was considered a strong contender for Peerpainti seat of RJD. He says that TMBU has given a new direction to the politics of Bihar and the teachers and students here deeply understand the pulse of the society. This political contribution of the university will probably also emerge in a more powerful form in the future. TMBU was the center of thought and leadership development. Dr. Deepak Kumar Dinkar, Senior Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science, Sundarvati Women’s College, says that TMBU and the colleges under it have been the center of ideological discussion, debate on ideas and leadership development. This is the reason why the students coming from here have been successful in making their own identity in the politics of Bihar and the country. He informed that Aparajita Sarangi, an alumnus of SM College, became BJP MP from Bhubaneswar in 2019. He did his graduation in English from this university. Nishikant Dubey, an alumnus of Marwari College, Bhagalpur, is a big name in Jharkhand politics today. Ram Ratan Singh, senior Communist Party of India leader and TMBU alumnus, is currently the MLA from Teghra in Begusarai. Jagannath Mishra became the Chief Minister three times TMBU alumnus Jagannath Mishra (Congress) was the Chief Minister of Bihar three times. Students’ Union elections were not held after 2019. Currently, a new sapling of student politics is not being prepared in this university which has given five Chief Ministers to the state. Student Union elections have not been held since 2019, stalling the process of emerging youth leadership. ABVP leader Ashutosh Singh Tomar said due to the absence of elections for four years, student politics has come to a standstill and demanded that the university administration should hold elections soon. DSW Dr. Archana Sah said that preparations are on to hold student union elections and efforts are on in this direction.
