The president of Brazil is happy to return to Indonesia after 17 years
Jakarta – Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said he is happy to visit Indonesia to make a state visit to meet President Prabowo Subianto. Lula said his last visit to Indonesia was 17 years ago when he first served as president. “Mr. President, I want to say that I am very happy to return to Indonesia after 17 years,” Lula said on Thursday (10/23/2025) during a one-on-one or tete-a-tete meeting with President Prabowo in the President’s Office, Merdeka Palace, Jakarta. According to him, however, there are still many sectors of cooperation that need to be strengthened between the two countries. “In 2008 we established a strategic partnership, and since then our relationship has developed in a very positive way,” said Lula. “But I think we are still behind the potential of both countries. Together we represent almost 500 million people. 280 million in Indonesia, 210 million in Brazil. We have strong developing economies. Two nations that still lack a lot in terms of improving their welfare, which is why they need social programs to help,” he added. Lula hopes that his state visit to Indonesia can yield profitable cooperation for the two countries. Mainly in the economy to science sectors. “I hope that in this visit to Indonesia, and during our meetings, we can guarantee political, economic, social, scientific benefits for the Indonesian people and for the Brazilian people,” said Lula.
